20-21 March Review
Back by popular demand, public ridicule, and because no one else volunteered to write match summaries … the weekly recap!
Div1: Pattaya City 2 – 3 British Club Casuals
Dropping their first points at home this season, Pattaya City was victimized 3-2 by BC’s pace and opportunistic style. Division 1's top scorer, Alex Olouiegbe didn’t waste chances when through on the keeper for 2 goals. The win sealed a BC double over Pattaya City and signaled an intriguing end-of-season in Division 1.
Div1: Londoner 1 – 3 Bulls Head
Bulls Head tightened up the title race with a 3-1 win over Londoner. After a goal-less first half, a balanced BH effort was just enough to overcome a Londoner side well-known for their back-from-the-dead comebacks.
Div1: Cosmos 4 - 1 Sunbelt
Cosmos continued their strong form in a 4-1 win after a sluggish first half. Unbeaten in their last 6, the self-described “old boys” from Cosmos overcame the heat and eventually powered home goals to leave Sunbelt in the relegation zone (depending on how many teams remain in the league next season).
Div1: Les Gaulois Paris Bangkok 9 – 2 Anatolia
Playing against 9 men, the French must have been wondering “qu'est-ce qui se passe “ after a 1-1 first half vs a feisty Anatolia team. The floodgates soon opened with Philippe and Mehdi providing 2 goals apiece on the way to eight 2nd half tallies.
Div1: Scandinavian Vikings 0 – 1 German All Stars
GAS assured themselves a ticket to stay in Division 1 next season with a tense 1-0 win over a Vikings team that finds itself in all sorts of relegation trouble. Sebastian Sabatini netted an early strike and the defense did the rest in preserving the 3 points.
Div2: Siam Celtic 2 – 0 Bangkok Storm
Despite a fine effort from Bangkok Storm, Siam Celtic quieted their derby-rival 2-0 in the hot Saturday sun. Ruairi Cunningham belted his 7th and 8th goal of the season to keep Celtic atop the Division 2 table and create some pressure-packed matches to close out the season.
Div2: Samitivej Hospital 3 – 1 Robin Hood
Anand kept Robin Hood in the match with some fantastic saves to keep things level at halftime, but 2 goals from Chukwuemeka Anaele allowed Samitivej to pull away from Robin Hood and secure a 3-1 win.
Div2: Bangkok United 2 –1 BSL Youth
After a 6-0 trouncing in the first leg, Bangkok United had a much tougher go against the BSL Youth on Saturday. A second half goal from Tamaoki gave BUN their 7th win in the last 8 games and BSL wondering how strong they could be if the current players stayed in the team next season.
Div2: iPlay 4 –4 FC Nova Pattaya
A back and forth game between two evenly matched sides produced some exciting football at Patana on Saturday afternoon. After a quick 2-0 lead, iPlay fell behind 4-2 and had to scratch and claw their way to get a share of the points with FC Nova Pattaya.
Div2: Pickled Liver 2 –1 BSL Masters
A Dave Drabble double lifted Pickled Liver to a 2-1 victory over the Masters. Anders’ league-leading 15th goal kept things even at the break, but the Pickles let the Masters marinate in the second half sun to take all the points.
