24-25 October review Division 1
Cosmos and Bulls Head headlined a full slate of tasty matchups in Division 1, but it was Pattaya City that continued their early separation from the peloton as we slowly ascend to the grueling mountain stages of the competition.
Londoner 7 – 2 Vikings
It appears that the demise of Londoner has been greatly exaggerated. Early season jitters have given way to a wake up call of the perennial top flight giant. 2 goals each from Nui, Danai, and Andy Birt paced Londoner in a blow-out of the shell-shocked Vikings.
Anatolia 6 – 1 Sunbelt
After accidentally fielding professional players in their prior match, Anatolia showed up with an even greater number of talented African players who ultimately proved too strong for Sunbelt. The ageless and crafty Mohammed Tanko controlled the tempo and added two goals to his account as Sunbelt are looking to add depth to their squad in time to rescue their season.
BC Casuals 3 – 0 Gaulois Paris Bangkok
Alex Olouigbe showed the French what teams in his wake have already experienced: he can score against anyone at anytime. British Club has to wonder how long before a Thai team snatches up the striker who added 2 more goals to his already impressive resume. Despite the poor results of the past two games, Les Gaulois know that their focus on fitness will soon pay dividends.
Pattaya City 3 – 1 German All Stars
The German All Stars brought a full complement of players to Horseshoe Point and gave Pattaya City their biggest test thus far. Pattaya City considered themselves fortunate not to be down at halftime after strong performances from the GAS strike force. To quote football great Shebby Singh, “at the end of the day” GAS couldn’t contain the barrage of Pattaya attacks … losing by an admirable margin of 3-1.
Bulls Head 3 -1 Cosmos
A counter-attack equalizing goal from Cosmos’ Kaka in the final minute of the first half set the stage for a compelling second half. Unfortunately for the hoards of fans at the late afternoon duel, it was not to be. An early Bulls Head tally followed by a Cosmos red card cemented the result just a few minutes after the whistle. A final Steve Ladas nail in the Cosmos coffin gave BH a deserved 3-1 victory.
