24-25 October preview

Division 2:

Week 4 was a total washout with only one game starting  and that was called off after 20mins.  So, no Div 2 review which may (or may not) mean less hate mail in my in-box this week.  So, moving along into the preview:

It appears to be a relatively quiet week in Division 2 with only 3 fixtures taking place.  Bangkok Storm will want to continue to impress after a good win against in their last game against BU Japan.  Their opposition, Samitivej Hospital, showed some potential against the Prickly Livers in their last game only to have their win annulled for not fielding enough eligible players.  Let’s hope they can bring in some new players and give the BST a good game.

BU Japan will be looking to get another win under their belt against the travelling FC Pattaya.  The BUN will not enjoy the physical nature of FCP’s game and FCP will have to keep all their players on the pitch to put up a decent challenge.  A Saturday game for BUN may mean they will be missing a few players so it will be interesting to see how they cope.

The final game of the weekend sees Siam Celtic look to maintain their 100% record against the Pickled Liver.  This one looks a dandy on paper and as long as the PL can bring out the big guns for this game, it could be very close.  Probably a busy time for the referee on the cards too.

BSL Masters, Youth, iPlay and Robin Hood are not on MBMG league duties though iPlay will be competing on Sunday in the opening rounds of the Bangkok Premier League at Patana.

Week 5 Predictions
BST 3 – 1 SAM
BUN 3 – 1 FCP
SC   2 – 2 PL

Division 1:

Pattaya City’s early run through Division 1 has been reminiscent of Mike Tyson’s bouts in the late 80s. Last weekend’s victim Les Gaulois Paris Bangkok, aka “The French,” played the role of Michael Spinks. Pattaya delivered its latest brutal knockout via a 5-1 hammering at Horseshoe Point. The result doesn’t tarnish Les Gaulois status as a top contender, but it does ask the question if any team can remain standing for 12 rounds of Pattaya haymakers.

The German All-Stars will try to answer this question as they travel to Pattaya at the weekend with 2 busloads of players and supporters. The French face off against the British Club Casuals in another battle of historical rivals … aren’t there any easy games anymore? Anatolia look to regroup against Sunbelt, who are desperately searching for some positives after a slow start to the season. The Londoner Express hasn’t been derailed, but the train is in need of some maintenance as it pulls into Scandinavian Vikings station. This weekend’s featured match, on paper, is the always entertaining Bulls Head-Cosmos showdown. By their own admission, Cosmos have underperformed but yet still find themselves in third place.

Good luck to all teams. Though after 2 weeks off, most teams are just praying we avoid biblical rainfall.
