3-4 October review
We didn’t have to wait long for the season’s first upset to take place as the full weekend of football fixtures provided a shocking result that asks more questions than it answers. Top of the table British Club Casuals, I'll say it again ... Top of the table British Club Casuals converted from the penalty spot after a horse-collar tackle in the box … which would ultimately be enough against a Cosmos team that has stumbled out of the starting gates. In a matchup of recent league champions, everyone had expected the Londoner-Pattaya City game to go to the final minute. However, Pattaya dominated 4-1 despite claims that the squad will only improve with the upcoming return of their regular 11. The Vikings and Germans, bumped back to Division 1 this season, were dealt very different hands this weekend. The French outlasted GAS 3-2 after another frantic final 10 minutes that saw an equalizing goal taken away by a controversial offside flag. The revamped Vikings celebrated their return to the top division by defeating Sunbelt. Finally, Bulls Head made good use of their newest signings in a convincing 4-1 victory over Anatolia.
In Division 2, iPlay brushed aside last week’s big winner, BSL, with surprising ease (5-2). Last year’s relegated side, Bangkok United, made their case for a quick return to Division 1 with a high-energy win over the BSL Masters. Saturday’s action featured the debut matches of 3 new teams. Robin Hood rebounded from their opening loss with a 6-0 gem over newly-created FC Pattaya. Siam Celtic went top with a comfortable 5-1 win over another recent addition to the league, Samitivej. Finally, Pickled Liver avenged a pre-season loss to Bangkok Storm by winning 4-2. |
